Tubing: Choose and Use

Sargent-Welch offers the following types of Tubing for your laboratory needs:

  • Rubber:
    • Handmade: Seamless, retains high elasticity for years
    • Machine Made: Economical, extruded

Q: What’s the difference between thin-walled wall and heavy-walled rubber tubing?
A:  Heavy-walled rubber tubing is used for pressure or vacuum connections. Thin-walled tubing should meet your other other lab requirements.

  • Latex: Seamless, good elasticity, and high strength. Latex tubing can be repeatedly sterilized.
  • Polyethylene (PE): Translucent, requires immersion into boiling water for attachment. Superior chemical resistance.
  • Vinyl: Economical, clear, flexible.

Glass Tubing is also available.
