A unique recording system allows quantitative measurements in experiments covering topics such as Newton’s laws, conversion from potential to kinetic energy, centripetal force, simple harmonic motion, accelerated motion in two dimensions, oscillations, and collisions.
A spark generator delivers a spark from the center of the bottom of each puck at one of six frequencies. The spark leaves a mark on recording paper placed on the table-giving a precise, direct record of each puck’s location at preset time intervals.
The spark source can be operated from 60Hz standard 110V line at one of six rates: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 100 milliseconds between sparks. To allow for spark recording, air is supplied through the actual pucks, via flexible tubing.
The complete apparatus includes: an air table, air compressor, aluminum support for air hoses, air supply hose, a spark generator, two steel pucks (550g each), one puck weight, Velcro adhesive puck collars, two springs, four plastic table pins for securing springs, one orbital post with suction cup, two wire collars with hooks for securing pucks to each other or to masses, a pulley which can be attached to the air table for suspending a mass, 100 sheets of recording paper, one sheet of carbon paper, and an instruction manual with suggested experiments.
