Formulas of compounds are predicted by their reactions. Varying proportions of lead nitrate and potassium iodide solutions, and lead nitrate and sodium oxalate are combined; then formulas are derived from the relative amounts of precipitate formed. Students also gain an understanding of percentage composition and molecular weight. Kit contains 12 Chemplates with spatulas, six drop bottles of lead nitrate and three drop bottles each of sodium oxalate and potassium iodide. With student worksheets and teacher instructions, materials are supplied for 12 student groups.
