Scholar Preparation and Properties of Buffer Solutions Lab Activity


Any aqueous solution that contains a mixture of a weak acid and its salt, or a weak base and its salt, behaves as a buffer solution. In this experiment, three different buffer solutions will be prepared and studied by adding strong acids and bases and monitoring the pH changes. Great opportunity to put the Henderson-Hasselbalch equation to work in real-life applications. Requires a pH meter. Includes materials for 15 set-ups.

Chemical Contents:
Acetic Acid
Hydrochloric Acid
Sodium Acetate
Sodium Hydroxide

Additional materials required:
50mL Beakers
25 mL Graduated Cylinder
10 mL Graduated Cylinders
pH Meter
