ScholAR Determining the Appropriate pH Indicator for an Acid/Base Titration Lab Activity

Acid Base (pH) indicators are those substances which change in color when they come in contact with an acidic or basic environment. Different pH indicators are used depending on the pH at the equivalence point during the titration. In this lab, two titrations will be performed - one involving a weak acid titrated with a strong base, the other involving a weak base tritrated by a strong acid. In each titration, an appropriate indicator will be selected to determine the correct equivalence point. The titration curves are also graphed and analyzed. Includes materials for 15 setups.
