(EDVO-Kit 109)Students are introduced to the basic concepts of DNA fingerprinting, commonly used for medical and forensic procedures as well as paternity determinations. Students have a chance to crack a hypothetical criminal case. Provided are DNA samples from the scene of the crime, Suspect #1 and Suspect #2. Remember: no two individuals have exactly the same pattern of restriction enzyme sites. Reagents for 8 gels—2 to 4 students per gel. Includes instructions. Required but not included: horizontal cell, power supply, standard glassware, beaker tongs, distilled or deionized H2O. Highly recommended: staining tray package, visible light box, automatic micropipet to deliver 40 ěl.
