This study unit enables students to investigate elements, compounds and mixtures with emphasis on the creation of new compounds in chemical reactions. Students observe chemical changes such as formation of precipitates, color changes and production of gases. Experiments can be repeated twice. Reproducible worksheets help students identify chemical symbols, formulas, names and components of common compounds. The kit contains filter paper, plastic spoons and two vials each of copper sulfate powder, sodium bicarbonate powder, sodium bicarbonate solution, and calcium chloride solution. Materials supplied for 28 students.
