Students will be the detectives, analyzing trace amounts of blood at the scene of a drug bust involving gang warfare. Working with routine reagents often used as a first screen, students will uncover seemingly invisible stains of simulated biological fluid at the scene, making them visible to the naked eye. Blood and DNA recovered from from spatters and blood trajectory will provide insight into the nature of the crime and the potential identities of the culprits. Kit includes simulated blood, leucocrystal violet solution, luminol solution, spray bottle, transfer pipettes, microtubes, and detailed instructions. Requires gloves, paper towel, face masks, and optional fume hood. Materials supplied for ten student groups. Activity can be completed in 35 minutes.
