How a flat map is used to depict the spherical surface of the earth is shown by means of map projection model. It also demonstrates why and where distortion occurs on a flat map and why different projections are used. Three fundamental projections are shown – cylindrical, conical and plane – on three transparent plastic maps, fitted on a special 8" diameter world globe included. Cylindrical world map and conical northern hemisphere maps can be unsnapped and laid flat. Plane northern hemisphere map fits on a peg at the north pole of the globe. An illustrated instruction manual is included.
