Molecular Motion Tube

A smashing demonstration for the kinetic theory of matter. The 12" glass tube contains numerous colored glass particles and a small amount of mercury. Because the tube is sealed off at reduced pressure, the mercury will boil when placed over a moderate heat source. As the tube is heated, the invisible mercury molecules violently agitate the visible glass particles, creating an effective display of random molecular motion.
