In this lab, students learn techniques of organic synthesis by reacting an alcohol and an acid to form an ester. Students will go through the techniques of refluxing, extractions, and distillation; then the theoretical yield and the percent yield will be determined.
This lab was designed to align to AP Lab Standard #22 - Synthesis, Purification, and Analysis of an Organic Compound. Distillation setup is required but not included.
